    Day 7

Our goal is to reunite Coo with her parents asap.  So each day we’ve placed Coo in their view and retreat to monitor from inside our house hoping the parents will start parenting/socializing Coo.  A crow must learn the ways of a crow to survive in the wild!

    Day 8

I am concerned that caring for Coo may pose a risk, not only to me but to Anna and Joyele.  Also, it has been a week of feeding her every hour from dawn to dusk, plus non-stop research, enclosure maintenance and a lot of other baby bird care. I feel fortunate that I am self-employed and have been able to take the time off to help Coo.  But I am wondering how long it will be until she is reunited with her parents or can make it on her own

    Day 9

BTW Dr. Lancer said my hand irritation resulted from overuse of hand sanitizer - made worse by abrasion from the rough inside lining of the old garden gloves I used to handle Coo. Didn’t know you could “over use” hand sanitizer and I was using the gloves for safety!!  But I’m OK now. Also BTW research indicates it is very very unlikely that Coo could transmit an infectious agent to me, Anna or Joyele.  They may poop a lot but they are very clean birds

    Day 15

After A LOT of calls I got a referral to a mobile veterinarian with “a bit of a renegade reputation willing to bend rules to help animals.”  He’ll come in 2 days. Thank God!  Because in addition to the growth under the feathers, the eye lesion seems to be growing … fast.

I’m hearing the song Africa:  “Gonna take a lot to drag me away from you.  There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do.”  “We’re gonna take some time to do the things we never had.”
